Management Structure: 6 Steering Committee representing all continents elected by the General Assembly; coordination by the secretariat based in Penang, Malaysia. Has 6 core partners Le Leche League International, International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN), International Lactation Consultants Association (ILCA), Wellstart International, LINKAGES and Academy of Breastfeeding medicine (ABM)

Objectives:

To protect, promote and support breastfeeding globally and inparticular to:

1. Re-establish and maintain a global breastfeeding culture.
2. Eliminate all obstacles to breastfeeding.
3. Promote more regional and national level co-operation.
4. Advocate for breastfeeding in development, women, environment and human rights programmes.

Core Activity: Promote breastfeeding and appropriate infant and young child feeding

Area of Interest: Maternal and child health, gender, Environment and food security, economics and market forces, human rights, culture and society, media and communications.

Type of Activity: World Breastfeeding Week Campaigns, Representation at global conferences, Training workshops, Publications.

Affiliation: Official inconsultative status with United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
