Objectives:
| 1. | To encourage blind people in Malaysia to work their mutual socio-economic advancement and their common good. |
| 2. | To uphold the rights of blind people to live as participating and contributing citizens of this country and promote their legimate interests. |
| 3. | To promote communication and understanding among members. |
| 4. | To promote sports and recreation for blind people. |
| 5. | To monitor and/or assess services provided for blind people by government and non-government bodies, and to present the considered views and recommendations of The Society on matters concerning blind people to the relevant bodies. |
| 6. | To co-operate with other organizations to achieve the objectives of The Society. |
| 7. | To work towards overcoming social barriers and to promote integration between blind and sighted people. |
| 8. | To promote the general well-being of blind people. |
Core
Activity:
| Education and computer training: computer literacy courses for members, assistance to members' children and blind students, mini-library services. | Employment: exploration into assistive devices, courses/seminars for specific categories, provides equipment loan. |
| Development of Entrepreneurship: provides interest-free small business loans to members (blind individuals and groups); plans to actively organize courses in basic business management, massage-related specialized areas, motivation towards success, and organize other entrepreneur promotion activities with the cooperation of relevant government departments and agencies. | Library
services: produces audio news clippings and magazines, promotion
of creative writing and artistic activities - drama, novels, poetry,
etc, publishes in-house magazine 3 times a year. Sports, recreationasl and social activities, indoor and outdoor, with emphasis on 3 sports with potential - chess, table tennis and ten-pin bowling. |
| Sale of Braille items: white folding canes, Braille writing frames, talking clocks, watches and calculators, Braille paper, Perkins Braillers, loop needle threaders; items are sold at reduced rates to members, and at cost to organizations and firms. | Computer Resource Centre: to promote access to computer information and technology for the blind; to educate the blind on various devices they could use to work with computer technology at work, in education and at home. |
